About the Javanese

The Javanese is a medium-sized cat with a long, tubular body. They are more muscular than the Balinese or Siamese, but they are definitely a slender cat with fine bones.

Javanese personality

The Javanese is an active, vocal cat, as befits most of the oriental cats. Cat trees and high perches are necessary equipment for them. If these are not provided, the Javanese will make anything tall her own special perch, as her slender figure conceals the strength of a powerful jumper.

What to expect

The Javanese is a slender cat, somewhat fine boned but muscular. The nutrition must be kept in proportion so she does not become overweight. If given enough exercise space, she is generally able to avoid getting too heavy.

The Javanese is a great jumper. She can leap effortlessly to the top of the refrigerator, bookcases, and even the tops of doors. She is lively, but still loving. She will sit quietly with her parent, purring and being petted. She is a loving companion.

History of the Javanese

The Javanese is a man-made breed originating in the United States that resulted from crossing a Balinese with a Colorpoint Shorthair. The Colorpoint Shorthair is a crossing of Siamese with American Shorthairs. So the resulting Javanese kittens look like the Siamese cats, but the coat is longer and the colors are different.
