I’m Amy Shojai, a nationally known authority on pet care and behavior and a certified animal behavior consultant (cats/dogs). I began my career as a veterinary technician, started writing about my experiences and have published more than 35 prescriptive nonfiction pet books and a pet-centric thriller series. I cover training, behavior, healthcare (both allopathic and holistic) and the health benefits of keeping dogs and cats — plus some Chicken Soup-style pieces.

Today, I’ve published more than 4,000 articles and columns. Highlights include creating dog and cat behavior content on HillsPet.com. I also wrote a weekly P’ETiQuette newspaper column for 30+ years and hosted 100 Pet Peeves podcasts interviewing experts in the field. My twice-monthly Pet Talk feature aired on KXII-TV for 20 years, and you can still see me as an expert on Animal Planet’s DOGS 101 and CATS 101.

I’m fortunate to have been honored with more than 90 writing awards from these and other organizations, such as the Everycat Media Award and two-time winner of the Texas VMA Mark Francis Award. Most recently, I received the AVMA Steve Dale Excellence in Veterinary Media Award and was inducted into the Dog Writer’s Association Hall of Fame. In 2022, I received the AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Public Service Award for the Hill’s article “Puppy Obedience Training: Tips for a Successful Approach.”

When not writing, signing books or lecturing at events, I enjoy my rose garden and occasionally perform onstage singing or playing cello. Mostly, I’m servant to my current furry muses — and those who live on in my heart.
