Bladder Health

Bladder stones are collections of mineral crystals that combine together in the urinary tract. They can cause discomfort and lead to more serious problems that require the care of a veterinarian.

Because the food your cat eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help support your cat's bladder health.

Cats need the right balance of minerals to maintain good bladder health. Excess minerals can encourage the formation of crystals in the urine, which can lead to the creation of bladder stones.

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • Cover and refrigerate unused portion. Use as directed by your veterinarian.
  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your cat may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your cat's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your cat's unique needs, and canned foods with delicious flavors your cat will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with dry food and treats, decrease the amount of canned food to avoid overfeeding.

SAVED MY CATS LIFE AFTER WEEKLY VISITS TO THE VET BECAUSE OF MY CAT GETTING BLOCKED WE FINALLY TRIED THE FELINE S/D WET. THE RESULTS WERE INSTANT AND HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM IN 8 MONTHS. THIS PRODUCT HAS TRULY SAVED MY CATS LIFE. February 10, 2014
Solved my female cat's bladder stone My petite black female cat was peeing blood- her urine was visibly red and she was peeing on the carpet. Got a digital xray done which clearly showed a pea sized stone in her bladder. My vet researched and saw that there are two types of stones and a 50/50 chance of which one it was. For one type of stone, the s/d food will actually *eliminate* the stone. I've been feeding her s/d canned now for a month and the symptoms are all gone, she is going in the litterbox again and I can see that it is not red anymore. She gobbles it up, too. I take her in a couple weeks for a follow up xray. So likely, she had the "right" kind of stone that this worked for. For the other type, I believe the c/d food can help, but they also could require surgery, too. I was very glad that this food seems to have made a significant difference, although the followup xray will tell for sure. Just had to share since this is a major *solvable* issue that many cats probably are punished or gotten rid of for what is a legitimate medical problem. November 16, 2014
my cat likes the food I actually don't know how to rate this product because the jury's still out. I won't know if this food dissolved the stones for another couple of weeks when a follow up exray is taken so I won't know any of the answers to your questions until then. All I can tell you right now is that my cat likes the food and is eating it fine. If the stones are gone then the product is well worthi the money. October 29, 2013
It worked for my cat My cat has a laundry list of problems and does not empty his bladder well. At age 9 he began to have crystals in his urine. There was blood in his urine and occasional infections. He was quite uncomfortable and I was at a loss about what to do for him. The Vet bills were passing from the usual well into the thousands. His neurologist suggested Hills SD. It seemed to work overnight. Tim was no longer uncomfortable, and in a week the blood was gone from his urine. I have trouble complaining about the price when I think about the Vet bills I would have incurred. Thanks Hills! April 27, 2014
My cat seemed to enjoy it and it helped with the urinary tract problems My cat seemed to enjoy it and it helped with the urinary tract problems March 25, 2014
Cats don't eat pork - won't eat this product My cat was recently diagnosed with a bladder stone. The vet recommended s/d dissolution to try to dissolve it. It's main ingredients are pork - cats don't eat pork. My cat won't touch it, even when I mix only 1 tsp into a 6-oz can of his favorite regular food. Consequently, my cat has to have surgery. If you want to make a product that a cat will actually eat, PLEASE make it with fish or fowl. In addition, this product stinks to high heaven - my entire house stinks. April 1, 2014
works wonders I have needed to use this product 2 times over the past 3 years. While I wish my cat didn't need it. The s/d can has taken care of my cats health problems. She loves the taste and begs for more. She did refuse to eat the dry option of this prescription diet. January 10, 2014
Good product but pricey I am pleased with the results of this product. My cat seems to be doing much better. However when we switched to the dry food, although my cat likes the food, the price of the product was way more than I had anticipated. I understand that it is a prescription food, but at 18+ dollars a bag, i should think that the bag could be filled at least to almost the top. I was surprised at how much air there was in the bag compared to food. The bag is nearly half air. I will continue to buy this product at my veterinarians recommendation, and because my cat is sick, but for the price of the food, the quantity is lacking and I would be so pleased if the bag was at least 3/4 full. Thank you, -Pedro's Mom December 10, 2013
