Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Individual requirements may vary depending on pre-existing nutritional status and medical condition. In patients where normal G.I. function has been compromised by anorexia, a three-day transitional feeding strategy may be necessary.
Day One 1/3 of daily caloric intake with 2/3 water dilution
Day Two 2/3 of daily caloric intake with 1/3 water dilution
Day Three Entire daily caloric intake
Select a feeding schedule based on the following patient criteria:
Schedule 1 Cage Rest
Schedule 2 Surgery, Sepsis, Cancer, Trauma, Fever, Feline Hepatic Lipidosis
Schedule 3 Severe Burn, Injury or Head Trauma

  • The following daily intakes are intended as a guide and should be adjusted as needed to achieve or maintain optimum body weight.
  • Divide into three to six equal daily feedings to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. (1 can = 150 ml.)

Great Product for Challenging Pets With Illnesses! I have used the A/d formula many times in the past. I fed it to my cats who had cancer when they would not eat. I would feed it through a syringe and add water to give them an extra hydration boost. I am now feeding it to my 10 year American eskimo dog who has an autoimmune disorder. She can only open her mouth about 1 1/2 inches and it makes it very difficult for her to eat. But she LOVES the A/D formula and it is soft enough for her to eat comfortably and gives her the nutrition she needed right now. Thanks Hills for a great product!! June 16, 2013
picky eater likes taste My dog is recovering from illness and has had no appetite. I am able to feed him using a syringe. He has always been a picky eater and seems to like the taste. The calorie content was not listed on the sample can the vet gave me so I was investigating this online. I was so excited to see your feeding guide. Thanks, Hills. December 11, 2012
This Product was a life saver for my cat We have been feeding this to my cat. We fed this food to him by hand. We placed it in his mouth. He has gained almost an entire pound in a week and is up and around again. He ate some food on his own today. Hill's is awesome. My cat is my best friend and it means the world to me to see him gaining and being ok again. Thanks Hills!!! November 24, 2012
Too costly This product is to costly and after comparing the ingredients to other brands there is nothing in it that justifies the high price. August 18, 2014
Expensive, but when they're sick, valuable My dog has been in critical liver failure, and nothing would pique her appetite. This did! She was able to eat this w/o hesitation.( My cat kept trying to eat it, too.) After dropping several pounds, she was finally able to start putting back on some of weight. Since eating caused her a lot of abdominal pain, she wouldn't eat anything on her own--except this. August 14, 2014
This food is the only one to keep him from throwing up. He loves the taste and eats it eagerly. It is the only food that works for him. July 21, 2014
Thanks A/D My 13 year old Chow Chow stopped eating gradually. She has always been a picky eater but would eat on her own terms. She started even turning her nose up at treats. We took her to the vet and after going to a specialist and many tests we found out she has Cushing's disease. She also has pretty bad arthritis. Normally Cushing's dogs eat a lot but not ours. Anyway we had tried all kinds of dog food, wet and dry and she didn't want any of it. The internist brought in some A/D and she liked it. So we have been feeding her that. I am thankful for it because when your baby won't eat it worries you to death. So if you have a dog that won't eat and is losing weight ask your vet about A/D. It isn't cheap but my baby is worth it. :) July 17, 2014
Amazing I used this food on my pom after he had two major surgeries. He wouldn't eat anything else. My only issue was that my overweight cat thought this food was for her as well. July 2, 2014
