Hill's® Prescription Diet®
r/d® Canine Weight Loss-Low Calorie

Weight reduction for overweight dogs.

Almost 50% of the pet population is overweight. Even a little extra weight can lead to serious health problems. Extra weight can reduce play time, impact mobility and affect the general health of your dog. Factors contributing to weight gain include age, lack of exercise and overfeeding.

Many commercial pet foods are loaded with salt and fat, which improve the taste but also have dramatic effects on your dog's weight and overall health. Along with frequent physical exercise, choosing the right food plays a very important role in helping dogs reach their proper weight.

At Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutritin especially formulated to reduce dogs' body fat by 22% in two months, while keeping him or her satisfied.

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • These amounts are a starting point only. Determine the amount to feed based on TARGET WEIGHT rather than the current weight. Your dog may need less or more food to safely lose weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure or if you are not feeding this product for weight loss, ask your veterinarian.
  • Mix increasing amounts of your dog's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet® formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your dog's unique needs and canned foods with delicious flavors your dog will love. When using with canned food and treats, decrease the amount of dry food to avoid overfeeding. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your dog's condition.
  • To prevent suffocation, keep this plastic bag out of the reach of pets and children.

This is the only product for my dog My min-pin is a diabetic and my vet prescribed this for her. She has been on it for years and is doing very good for her. I really thank you for the coupon I found on your site since the price of your food has increased in price and decreased in size. Thank you again for helping me keep my baby around a lot longer with your good food for her condition. November 13, 2013
This is an excellent, well balanced food for dogs. We own 4 geriatric dachsunds, ages from 9-15. All of them were overweight and 3 of the 4 were experiencing back and hip problems. Our vet recommended this dog food after our youngest had a vestibular stroke. Two weeks after they began their new dog food all had lost 2 pounds each. Its been a month now and all of our dogs are behaving like puppies again. They have lost between 3-5 lbs. and their coats are shiny and soft. We always thought they were pretty healthy but the changes in their behavior and looks is astonishing. Thank you so much for their amazing makeover and their improved quality of life! The product works! My dog has been overweight for years. A Vet suggested this food and she has finally lost 4lbs. She looks fantastic! September 26, 2013
This product has proven to be very beneficial for my boxer Our boxer was diagnosed with a thyroid issue. He was gaining weight rapidly. He also had a slight cancer issue and our vetenarian placed him on a steroid medication. This medication caused him to have very loose bowel movements. The vet prescribed R/D due to its fiber and nutrients. Our boxer enjoys this food and the loose bowel problem has ceased due to your product. April 10, 2014
Years of Success I have owned doxies for years and have always been pretty vigilant with weight control... until I adopted Ms. Jasmine. After back surgery at age 2, we had to address it. Since her first diet in which she lost 2.5 pounds reaching a 10.5 pounds goal using R/D, she has had difficulty finding any light/diet food to maintain her weight long term without drastic restriction. (I have tried a number of premium brands over 3 or 4 years.) It's very frustrating to gain even when on a diet program. We have found a happy balance that is somewhat of a YoYo diet. When she gets about 1-1.5 pounds overweight, we go to R/D and she always looses successfully. We then move back to W/D for 6-8 months as the weight creeps on. Then it is back to R/D. This has worked for about 5 years if not longer. She would rather eat W/D, but once we ease her into the R/D she tolerates it after complaining a bit the first week or so. It is pack with fiber, so keep the scoop handy. Without R/D as a successful diet option for this doxie, her weight loss plan would be so restrictive, she would never be satisfied...or satisfied as a doxy can be. Hands down, I would recommend this if nothing seems to work. It is pricey, but worth it for my small dog. She recently was placed on lower calorie Hills food to prevent crystals in her urine, but her crept up faster than normal even feeding less than recommended amount....Now we have 2 pounds to lose, a bit more than we are used to. I am excited to try Hills new Metabolic Solution as a combined weight loss and management solution for our newest weight possibility. It will be nice to not have to switch foods and maintain weight only using amounts. At first bit, she likes it better than R/D, no evil looks or pouting so far. I will give 1 bag a try, if no results we will go back to the proven routine. April 8, 2014
WD My dog is a diabetic. He loves the WD wet & dry. The only thing is i wish on the label on all brands they would have sugar amount, like on people food. Other than that love the WD April 7, 2014
My Pet loves the food and gobbles it up. My dog is normally a very fussy eater who needs to loose weight and I was amazed how well he adopted to this food and loved every morsel of it. March 30, 2014
RD dry Dog food works, but too expensive. I will look for something comparable at a pet store for less money. No reason it has to be that expensive for a DIET food. March 21, 2014
