Kidney Health

Kidneys are very important because they remove waste substances from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible.

Because the right nutrition can positively impact your pet's quality of life, Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet® k/d®, clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your cat's kidney health. In fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve quality of life in cats.

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • Cover & refrigerate unused portion.
  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your cat may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your cat's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period. Prescription Diet formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your cat's unique needs, and canned foods with delicious flavors your cat will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with dry food and treats, decrease the amount of canned food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your cat's condition.

Sample can was a big hit! I've had trouble getting my cat to eat the prescription k/d formula food. She just doesn't like it. Couldn't tell if it was the flavor or consistency but she just wouldn't eat it. When I returned the unopened cans to my vet for a refund (thank your Hill's) they brought out some samples of new k/d food to try. My cat seems to prefer fish flavored food so I thought she might like the Vegetable & Tuna Stew. She really liked it and gobbled it right up! I'm hoping it isn't just a "one hit wonder" which has happened before with other foods. She loved the first can but wouldn't eat it on subsequent feedings. She liked it enough that I'll go back for more. August 9, 2014
My cat like's it. My pocketbook does not, No matter were I look it is the same price. To high and You have to buy it from a Vet. Witch is the same price that is on your web page. How about some coupons give me a brake here. I brought here back from Kidney Failure so I have no use cat food like this for KD. Lee September 26, 2014
My cat really loves this stuff! My wonderful 19 year old cat Nala has been in renal failure for 1 1/2 years. She has been eating the regular k/d formula since her diagnosis. Recently she began not eating as well and I feared that we might be nearing the end... She became weaker by the day despite daily fluid therapy and medication. I was reluctant at first to try the new k/d tuna and vegetable stew thinking that nothing at this point would bring her back to where she was, but my veterinarian convinced me to try anyway. From the moment I put that bowl in front of her she's been like a new cat! I hadn't seen her eat that well in years. I'm so grateful to all of the people at Hills for creating such a beneficial and palatable food for my kitty :) September 26, 2014
Feline K/D tuna stew Great that there is a fish protein being offered! All other renal specific diets are poultry proteins. My cat loves it! I just wish that cans would be offered in a 5.5oz and not 2.9oz cans. September 16, 2014
pets are loving the stew Our clinic recently started using the feline kd stews for our hospitalized patients with renal issues. The cats have been eating it better and or quicker than the traditional kd form. also having the small can size helps with each serving being fresher. September 8, 2014
Tuna without veggies might be preferred In looking for variety from just chicken, I purchased the tuna with veggies. My cat of 18 years does not seem to like this flavor. Perhaps the veggies is not a taste he is used to having. In the past, I have been able to offer him variety of flavors (beef, tuna, ocean fish, lamb). Also, I heat (9 seconds)his refrigerated food and the tuna does not heat as well. The pet store I use only carries chicken and other options would be nice. Thank you. August 30, 2014
