Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your dog may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your dog's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your dog's unique needs and canned foods with delicious flavors your dog will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with canned food and treats, decrease the amount of dry food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your dog's condition.
  • To prevent suffocation, keep this plastic bag out of the reach of pets and children.

Always on prescription diet Over the years we have had 4 dogs who all have ended up on prescription diet. We now have two dachshunds that are on w/d for weight control. One of them is also on it for gastrointestinal problems. Our two dachshunds are certified therapy dogs and we would not feed them anything else. When our vet decided to no longer carry Hills prescription diet, rather than change foods, we changed vets. We found out that it was a change for the better. We now go to a vet that provides what our puppies need. We use dry food for their meals and canned food to bake into treats. After putting both puppies on this food, we have had no other problems. Hills Prescription diet is what is best for our dogs and that is what they will get throughout their life. Since our puppies provide comfort and therapy to many adults and children, the very least we can do is to provide them with the nutrition they need and love. To us, w/d stands for wonderful and delightful which is exactly what our puppies are on this food. December 10, 2013
This product has great benefits Shar-peis are very sensitive dogs. This product has maintained my dog's digestive system under control. My dog is almost 12 years old with the demeanor of a teenager. He enjoys eating his food and since I started him on the Hills Prescription diet, he has never had a problem with his digestive system. I use the Hills Science Diet Advance Fitness (Small Bites) and Small & Toy Breed (Light) for my other dogs. November 13, 2014
We all like it With our Vet's recommendation, we put both of our Yorkshires on this diet to lessen the chance of repeating Pancreatitis on Ginger. She did quite well for several more years and now Nyla continues with the same feeding regimine. Mixing canned with dry and a spoonful of yogurt, she can't wait to eat. It tastes a little plain to me, but she eats every last bite down to licking the bowl clean. Our cat Grace' also eats a few bits at times. Thans Hills and God Bless. The Webers August 10, 2014
My baby lost the weight he needed I have two babies that eat this and they seem to enjoy it. It helps with the weight loss and balance. Would recommend if you need your baby to lose some weight. August 25, 2014
Great food but pricey, but worth it. Good food cost more and you get what you pay for. Our Dog is a 10 yr old mix who is and was always active. We almost lost her in the summer of 2013, she had major surgery and thanks to the vet and staff pulled through. They rec'd Hills Prescription Diet® w/d® Canine Low Fat-Glucose Management-Gastrointestinal. She pulled through and acts like she is 5 years old, and we think the food may be part of her recovery. She'll eat it dry too and she can be very picky. January 16, 2014
Must buy due to ulcerative colitis -miniuture pinscher 14years old Even though I am forced to buy this for my dog, I feel it's a godsend...It helps my dog stay healthy. Her hearing is almost gone, she has cataracts, but, she is pooping GREAT....LOL February 8, 2014
Diabetic Canine Finds It Too Dry My minature poodle recently diagnosed with diabetes finds it too dry and dosen;t seem to like it. We have to mix it with w/d low glucose wet food to coat the pellets so she will eat it. Otherwise she will only eat it if she is starving and needs to eat regularly. Our Bijon without diabetes won't eat the dry pellets at all and will lick the wet food off when we mix it. They eat together so we have to feed them the same thing. May 29, 2014
W/D great product W/D has help my dog tremendously. He used to vomit after eating if he drank water. My vet put him on W/D and his vomiting stopped. I would recommend this product for digestive issues. I do wish it was not so expensive. I am feeding an Old English Sheepdog and the food bill adds up. He is worth it!! August 11, 2013
