k/d® Canine Renal Health

Kidney Health

Kidneys are very important because they remove waste substances from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible.

Because the right nutrition can positively impact your pet's quality of life, Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet® k/d®, clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your dog's kidney health. In fact, k/d is clinically tested to improve quality of life in dogs

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • Cover and refrigerate unused portion.
  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your dog may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your dog's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your dog's unique needs, and canned foods with delicious flavors your dog will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with dry food and treats, decrease the amount of canned food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your dog's condition.

Quality Product We have been feeding K/D wet food to our dog for over 2 yeas, since she was diagnosed with Kidney failure in July 2011. Dogs with Kidney Failure are fussy eaters and owners usually have to change food often. This is the only food she will eat and we have tried others. October 23, 2013
Product works and my dog loves it! Hill's Prescription Diet k/d canned food has helped my foster dog, Jamie's, kidney functions return to near normal! Jamie has been eating canned k/d food for more than a year now and his kidney function levels have significantly reduced during this time. Even better...Jamie LOVES this food! He comes into the kitchen twice a day at his scheduled time "asking" for his food! I am very thankful for this product as it has given Jamie the opportunity to celebrate his 14th birthday next week. I hope to celebrate many more with this very special foster dog! October 18, 2013
My Vet and I are pleased with my dog's response to this food. My Vet and I are please with my dog's response to the k/d wet dog food. I was a little skeptical about trying a prescription dog food, but Squirty needed to get his kidney levels back in balance. He is a VERY picky eater, and I was plesantly surprised that he zealously ate the food. We've been on this diet for almost a year, and he is holding his weight, his BUM levels are much better, and his stools are consistent. I was concerned about all the "naturalists" comments (high fat content, junk food, etc.) about prescription diets, and for me, they were unfounded. I would heartily recommend this food. Recommended by vet for my dog's declining kidney function Don't know if the change in diet is working for my dog yet. He seems to enjoy the taste. Would love a canned food that was a little easier to get out of the can. The texture is very jelly-like. One other suggestion- make all cans with pop top. I cannot find the lamb flavor in pop top July 17, 2014
even picky dog likes this wet dog food very palatable to picky eater, even when mixed in with dry food. good for kidney problems July 15, 2014
My babies love it They love the taste and my old girl is much better! July 8, 2014
Great benefits, horrible texture I have a tiny yorkie (1 lb / 15 oz) who has a portosystemic shunt & a protein losing enteropathy. We have bounced between the K/D and I/D low fat based on which condition is acting up - but both (in combination with some prescriptions) have really helped extend his life expectancy and quality of life. The main issue we are experiencing with the K/D however is that its so thick, he has a really hard time eating it. He will spend 20+ minutes and not get through half his food. Any advice??? Help! This product has helped to prolong my dog's life. It's expensive, but worth it! I believe it's helped to prolong my dog's life. Also I think the med's have kicked in:-) July 3, 2014
