Inappropriate levels of fat in the blood, inability to digest protein, or lack of digestive enzymes can affect your dog's digestive health. Efficient digestion is essential for you dog to be able to build and repair tissues and obtain energy, and for these reasons it is important to feed a food that is formulated to help support digestive health. For many dogs experiencing digestive challenges, it's also very important to feed a food with a low fat level.

At Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help manage dogs with challenging digestive health problems.

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your dog may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your dog's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your dog's unique needs, and canned foods with delicious flavors your dog will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with canned food and treats, decrease the amount of dry food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Split the recommended daily amount into smaller portions and feed throughout the day.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your dog's condition.
  • To prevent suffocation, keep this plastic bag out of the reach of pets and children.

Saved my pet's life I have used this product for about 7 months now. My dog was diagnosed with a life threatening illness caused by a reaction to one of the combination heartworm/flea tick medications that resulted in a life long health condition. The emergency hospital started her on the i/d lowfat diet. She is not overweight and my regular vet has continued her on it. She loves the food, right size for her, and is healthy again. I feel this food is a life saver as are other prescription diets that I have used for other pets in the past. Cost is very reasonable and quality control is also great. April 21, 2013
Recently started trial of i/d lowfat prescription diet I have recently begun a trial of the i/d low fat prescription diet food for my lhasapoo, as recommended by her vet. She will eat the i/d low fat most of the time, but she does not seem to enjoy it as much as she did the previous food she was on (also a Science Diet product). More times than not, she has to be coaxed to begin eating or to finish all of the food, and she has to be fed away from the other dogs in my house to avoid her eating their food instead. The cost of the i/d low fat is quite a bit higher than the other prescription diet foods I feed, and I am not certain that I will continue to use this food after the bag I currently have is gone. I would still recommend this as a quality food, but I would say that my dog did not like the taste and that it is much more expensive. February 26, 2013
