Digestive Health Support

Dietary indiscretion, food allergies, or lack of digestive enzymes can affect your dog's digestive health. Efficient digestion is essential for your dog to be able to build and repair tissues and obtain energy, and for these reasons it is important to feed a food that is formulated to help support digestive health.

At Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help manage dogs with digestive health problems. Due to its easily digestible ingredients, Prescription Diet® i/d® may also be helpful for pets recovering from gastrointestinal upset and routine surgery.

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your dog may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure, or if you are feeding Prescription Diet i/d Canine Gastrointestinal Health to a puppy, ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your dog's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your dog's unique needs, and canned foods with delicious flavors your dog will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with canned food and treats, decrease the amount of dry food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Split the recommended daily amount into smaller portions and feed throughout the day.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your dog's condition.
  • To prevent suffocation, keep this plastic bag out of the reach of pets and children.

My dog has health issues and requires special dog food. I have a Maltese that has health issues with his digestive system. The ingredients in the dog food are not found in the dog food sold in stores. I tried. I have read ingredients in many, many brands of dog food sold both in low end department stores, grocery stores and Pet stores. None of these stores dog food products have the good nutrients that are found in Hills Dog Food. A bonus is that my dog's white hair does not have tear stains. Many people have asked me how I keep my dogs hair so white, especially around his eyes. My response, the discharge from the tear ducts stain the fur from the dye in the dog food. A good quality dog food, like Hills, does not use dyes. As stated, I could not find a dog food to compete with Hills, there are none! August 14, 2014
Good food for our sick baby! Recommended for Skippy after serious intestinal problems. Seems to have done the job and she really enjoys dry mixed with a little canned and water. September 22, 2014
Excellent Food We almost lost our 7 yr old pug to a ham bone that our neighbor thought he would enjoy. Well he did until it wouldn't pass. He was prescribed Hill's ID and it has been wonderful for him. It keeps him at a nice weight of 22lbs which is pretty good for him. And as a bonus, he loves it. September 17, 2014
Both of my Maltese love it! Both of my Maltese love the Hills Prescription Diet Canine Gastrointestinal food and I know that it is a quality food. It was easier to feed them the same thing, even though the cost was more. However, coupons do help! September 18, 2014
It's a fantastic Prescription Dog Food that I highly recommend! My Aussie mix, C.C., was having stomach problems for a week. She would hardly eat and when she did she had tummy issues. I took her to our vet on Tuesday. She was running a small fever but blood work was clean. He put her on both the dry and wet Prescription Diet i/d canine Gastrointestinal Health. She ate it immediately and loved it. It didn't upset her tummy. By the following Monday she was herself again and her appetite was back to normal and so was her energy!. Thank you Hills. We are forever greatfu! June 30, 2013
It is good for my 12 1/2 year old Boxer. My Boxer is 12 1/2 yrs. old and he does well on this product. Been on it a long time. The cost has gone up and it is not cheap, but he is worth it. Each month we try to find coupons to help with the cost of the 35lb. bag. Petsmart helps with this. And sometimes online coupons. Could use more. October 10, 2014
Great for any dog with digestive issues! My little dog will be eight years old May 5. He is a 10 pound Pekachi who is loved by everyone who meets him. He started having severe stomach problems a couple of years ago. I tried all kinds of different dog food without any positive results. Our vet suggested we try Science Diet ID Prescription dog food. He has been on this dog food for a couple of years now and has done so well. All his stomach can tolerate is this Science Diet ID diet and blueberries. I use both the wet and dry dog food and he never seems to tire of either. I even use the dry dog food for his treats. I also fill his Kong with the dry and top it off with the wet. He loves it! The only downside for me is the price. I wish we were able to get more frequent coupons or the price was a little lower. April 18, 2014
This product is perfect for a dog or cat with IBS Yes this Hill's ID is a heaven sent. My little sweetness has been on Hill's Prescription ID since he was about 1 years old and now he has made to 9 years old. thanks to Hill's. Chou Chu has IBS everything upsets his stomach. He use to be on an all natural food but this did not help. I tried name brand products these did not help either. My vet advise Hill's and this is what he has been on since and he is healthy, happy, active. I feed him a 1/4 cup 7a, 12n, 5p and at nights he get a double portion because it is the longest period with out food. I you have to work and cannot feed your pet 4 times a day I would recommend an automatic feeder. I have one work very well. Thank you Hill's. P.S. you can print coupons from the Hill's website, your vet will honor it. June 30, 2014
