Hill's® Prescription Diet®
g/d® Canine Early Cardiac-Healthy Aging

For the nutritional support of senior dogs.
As dogs age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart.
Kidneys are very important to the health of your dogs because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible.
The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your dog's lifestyle and mood.
Because the food your dog eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older dog's kidneys and heart for overall health.

Feeding Guide

Daily Feeding Guide:

Important Feeding Information

  • These amounts are a starting point only. Your dog may need less or more food to maintain proper weight. Adjust as needed. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
  • With your veterinarian's approval, mix increasing amounts of your dog's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period.
  • Prescription Diet® formulas are available in a wide variety of dry foods and treats for your dog's unique needs, and canned foods with delicious flavors your dog will love. Supplementation with other foods or treats is unnecessary and may decrease the effectiveness of the food. When using with canned food and treats, decrease the amount of dry food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Keep fresh water available at all times!
  • For best results, have your veterinarian monitor your dog's condition.
  • To prevent suffocation, keep this plastic bag out of the reach of pets and children.

Our 16 year old senior gives this 4 paws We have a 16 year old senior beagle who will be turning 17 this January. She is still going strong at this age. we are glad there is a dog food on the market to help her maintain her health. June 29, 2013
This is a well formulated product for aging dogs This was recommended by our regular vet as a maintenance diet for our 13 year old Yorkie. He has enjoyed good health over a full and active life (now made a little more active by his 2 year old companion!). He and I are both entering later life, which means attention to achieve a healthy diets in the face of diminished physical stamina and activity. Enjoyable nourishment without becoming overweight is our mutual goal. October 17, 2014
Vet recommended but very expensive My vet recommended this food and if it prolongs my dog's life then I am all for it. However, this food is only available in 8 pound bags and I use it for one of my fifty pound dogs. This is very expensive. My vet has suggested moving my other 2 dogs onto this food but without larger bags available, it's not financially possible. I see large bags of several Prescription Diet formulas at our vet, but for whatever reason, this one is not available. Why?! July 8, 2014
Keeps our dog healthy! Our dog was originally put on this prescription diet food because she has pancreatitis but our vet says there are so many other health benefits she should live a long life! She is a rat terrier who is 12 years old - don't tell her she still thinks she's a young pup! September 19, 2014
Rusty always enjoys the food. He gobbles it up immediately. As long as Rusty is happy we are happy. He has never turned away for g/d and enjoys it. G/d has a lot of nourishment for an older dog. Rusty will be 11 this month and he still plays fetch every single day. September 11, 2014
g/d has helped keep our little dog healthy for many years! Our little Poodle / Shih Tzu / Bichon mix had some issues - we started her on g/d and she is now 15 - still going strong - she has had very good health since we made the switch to g/d. Thank You!! My only complaint would be that you stopped making the 40 lb bag, so now we buy 3 - 8.5 lb bags at a time - hoping you will go back to larger bags available. October 7, 2013
Excellent products Prescription g/d cardiac diet has been the only dry and wet dog food I have used for the past three years and has maintained a good health for my Schnauzer. She had experienced acute medical problems requiring hospitalizations on two occasions but after initiating Rx Diet, she has been doing very well for a 13-year-old dog. Realize it is an expense to feed, but certainly has lived up to its quality. September 25, 2013
our vet has us using this product. It seems to be working on three of our dogs, may it will on the other one. June 30, 2014
