Hill's Pet Nutrition Pledges to Save One Million Cats and Dogs in 2008 Help Make a Difference in a Shelter Pet's Life By Giving Them a Second Chance for Love

TOPEKA, KS (April 24, 2008) - Each year, millions of shelter cats and dogs wait to be adopted. A common misunderstanding is that animal shelters are filled with pets that lack obedience, good health or hygiene. However, through proper nutrition, shelter pets can thrive which helps lead to placement in a new home faster.

To help raise awareness for shelter pet adoptions, Hill's Pet Nutrition is launching the 2008 Second Chance for Love program. The Hill's Second Chance for Love program is the largest adoption initiative in the company's history. The goal of the program is to inspire people to open their hearts and homes to the millions of lovable pets waiting for a second chance. Hill's has a long-standing tradition of helping shelter cats and dogs find loving homes. Last year alone, Hill's donated over $30 million worth of food to shelters and helped find homes for more than 931,000 shelter cats and dogs. This year, Hill's is pledging to save 1 million cats and dogs through shelter adoption.

"Hill's has been actively supporting shelter adoptions through our Shelter Nutrition Partnership Program since 2002 and we believe that precisely balanced nutrition leads to a healthier, happier lifestyle and can strengthen the bond between people and their adopted pets," said Dianne Perkins, Hill's Shelter Partnership Manager. "We believe strongly that every pet deserves a second chance for love with a new family."

To help kick off the program, Hill's is teaming up with celebrity pet photographer Jim Dratfield. Jim Dratfield, considered the Dr. Doolittle of Animal Photography, has a great passion for animals. He is best known for capturing the special bond between owners and their pets and he has worked with celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Billy Joel. Jim is also an adopted pet owner who feels strongly about raising awareness for shelter animals.

The Hill's Second Chance for Love Tour will travel to select cities across the country visiting local Hill's shelters to help raise awareness for the program. The tour will showcase loving adoption stories and partner with local shelters to host adoption events where consumers can meet lovable cats and dogs in need of good homes. Hill's will underwrite the first 25 adoptions at each shelter event, provide a five pound bag of precisely balanced Hill's® Science Diet® pet food and a pet adoption kit to new pet owners to help them maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle for their new cat or dog. Jim Dratfield will also be on hand capture a special photograph of pet owners with their adopted cat or dog. The photographs will be available to consumers online following the adoption event day.

In addition to the tour, current or new adoptive pet owners who opened their hearts to adopted pets are encouraged to share their stories as part of the Second Chance Contest. Two grand prize winners, one cat and one dog, will win a photo shoot with Jim Dratfield in New York City and their nominated shelters will each receive a $10,000 donation. Entries will be accepted beginning today through November 4, 2008 either onsite at the Second Chance for Love Tour or by visiting www.hillspet.com/secondchance.

About Second Chance for Love
Since its inception, Hill's Shelter Nutrition Partnership program has been committed to providing precisely balanced nutrition to shelters for dogs and cats across the United States to help them get a second chance. The Shelter Nutrition Partnership provides each shelter with the free, precisely balanced pet nutrition they need to help their pets get healthy so they can get adopted faster. To date Hill's has donated over $78 million worth of food to support cats and dogs in over 1,300 shelters.

Shelters that participate in the program receive food for all the dogs and cats in their care - for free. The shelter provides a roof over their heads, and Hill's provides the precisely balanced nutrition in their bowls. All the shelter pays for is shipping.
